The State Pension

The current State Pension in Ireland is payable from age 66. This is due to increase to 67 (and subsequently 68), but at the time of writing (August 2021) we are not clear if and when this will happen.

The full State Pension is €248.30 per week (or €12,912 p.a.) per person. There is an increase of €165.40 per week for a qualifying adult (under 66) and €222.30 per week if the qualifying adult is over 66.

The Contributory State Pension is paid to those who have built up enough PRSI contributions in their lifetime. This is scaled back for those who do not have full PRSI contributions. The Non-Contributory State Pension is means-tested.

The State Pension in Ireland forms a very important building block in generating adequate income in retirements.
